Living with Wildland Fires: A Multi-lingual Manual

CHALLENGE

The Living with Wildland Fire (LWW) Guide was a project initially designed by Forester Tracy Katelman (ForEvergreen Forestry) for use in Humboldt County. The manuals are a “one-stop shop” for county-based services and information related to wildfire mitigation and survival. The LWW Guides include everything from home hardening and building defensible space, through an active fire emergency, to what happens after a fire hits your community.

APPROACH

The Solano County Office of Emergency Services (OES) used the same fundamental layout, but revamped the language and graphics to align with county imagery, efforts, locations, systems, and priorities.

Once all of the images and text had been updated, we worked with our translation partner (Localipsum) to have the English version translated into Spanish and Tagalog. The client then arranged for hard copy printing.

This project also included building three basic websites for local Fire Safe Councils.
